É bem possível que a “tortilla de patatas”, uma das receitas mais típicas e deliciosas da cozinha espanhola, não existisse nos dias de hoje. Não sei se é verdade, mas é mal dito que por muito tempo, a batata (seu principal ingrediente), não tenha sido consumida na Europa, por causa de “achômetro”… Sim, achavam que era um alimento impuro ou maldito, além de não citado na Bíblia, nascido da escuridão do solo. E ainda, sua chegada na Europa calhou com a época das grandes epidemias, quando um sem número de pessoas foi fatalmente vitimado. A falta de conhecimento da população, colocou a culpa da tragédia na pobre da batata. Só que, por ironia do destino, mais tarde se tornou um mantimento abençoado e imprescindível, ao salvar milhões de europeus da fome na Segunda Guerra Mundial. É atualmente um dos tubérculos mais consumidos no mundo, e é nossa estrela de hoje. Ainda bem que o tal do “achômetro” deu em nada, pois seria muito ruim passar por essa vida sem saber que gosto tem a bendita da TORTILLA DE PATATAS.
